What will I need to bring?
For all trips you will need to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, bug spray, shoes that can get wet and stay on your feet, foul weather gear. For overnight trips you will need to bring a headlamp or flashlight, toiletries, day pack, appropriate clothing ( bathing suit, jacket..). We do not provide alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own. If you are planning to fish, please make sure to have a personal fishing license for Georgia: https://gooutdoorsgeorgia.com/
What will be provided?
Our multi-day trips are priced including meals, accommodation, kayaking, any necessary equipment, towels, drinking water, guide and captain and boat.
Multi-day trips can be arranged where participants bring their own food.
You can bring your own kayak if it is appropriate.
Special kayaks - like pedal and motorized - could cost a little more if requested.
Tackle costs $20 per person per day if needed. (You may bring you own.)
What kind of kayak will I use?
We get our kayaks from SouthEast Adventure Outfitters on St Simons Island, Ga. You can check out their website www.southeastadventure.com to get an idea of what they carry. You can request tandem or single kayaks, Sit-on-tops, or cockpitted boats. Most of the boats will have rudders on the back. Special kayaks - like pedal and motorized - could cost a little more if requested. You can bring your own kayak if it is appropriate.
What if I do not have the minimum number of people required for a trip (typically 5)?
If you have 1, 2 or 3 folks for a trip you will have the option of paying the 5 person minimum and having the boat to yourself. Either way, you should contact us and see what your options are. We can be flexible and want to get you out on the water. There are 3 staterooms with a bunk bed in each.
What if the weather is bad?
Well, it depends. The Captain Gabby is well appointed with comfy interior space - like our galley, the 3 staterooms, a nice bathroom, and the pilothouse. So we can happily wait out a squall. However, if the weather is too bad to do anything in, we can cancel, reschedule, or shorten a trip. If we cancel a trip, we refund any payments. Shortened trips are reasonably refunded partially. We withhold the right to modify or cancel any trip due to weather conditions.
What are the staterooms like? You know, the bedrooms...?
Each of the 3 staterooms have a very comfortable bunkbed in them. The lower bunk is about 6 inches off of the floor and there is a decent amount of headroom for each bed. The beds are wider near the shoulders and about 6ft long. Linens and 2 towels are provided to each person. There is one light for the room, a window in the wall and in the door both with curtains. There is a screen for the window. There is the possibility of having a/c. You will want to bring a headlamp to read at night and in general. There is carpet on the floor and some personal gear storage and hooks. You are very close to everyone's rooms, so sound privacy is tough.
What is the head like? ... the bathroom...?
The head is well-equipped with a hot / cold freshwater shower, sink, and a toilet. The toilet is kind of small and is a "marine head" - so requires pumping. But it works simply and easily and we teach you how to do it - no problem. We have some shampoo and conditioner and toothpaste on board for you to use, but bring your own stuff if you like, of course. There is no electrical plug in the bathroom. There is a lovely stained glass window in the door that was generously handmade, and given to us by Marge Young, Charlie Young's mother. You should see it in person to truly appreciate it.
